Those who experience severe and persistent pain in their neck and arms probably want relief. Many natural treatments provide temporary relief but the effects don’t last long and the pain can slowly inch back. Cervical selective nerve root blocks were created for those who want long-term relief from their severe neck and arm pain.

What Are Cervical Selective Nerve Root Blocks?

A cervical selective nerve root block, or an SNRB, is an injection that is administered to the cervical spine. Nerve pain in the neck can quickly escalate and begin to affect the rest of the body. The goal of this treatment is to target the area in the neck causing the issue and administer a long-lasting pain reliever. This type of treatment is used to provide relief for many different conditions such as:

  • Spinal stenosis
  • Radiculopathy
  • Herniated discs

This treatment is not exclusive for those with serious conditions like the ones listed above. Anyone with moderate to severe neck or arm pain may be eligible for this treatment. If you are wondering if you could be an ideal candidate, talk to your doctor and get an exam to determine if this treatment would be beneficial for you.

What Is The Procedure Like?

The procedure is fairly quick and doesn’t involve a massive time investment from the patient. A medical professional will sedate the patient and then situate them in a way where their neck is fully exposed. Their neck will be numbed for the procedure and the doctor will use an x-ray device to focus their needle to the pain site. The needle is then inserted into the neural foramen space where the nerves meet the spine. It may take up to a few minutes for the entire injection, but afterward, a bandage is put over the injection site and the patient is free to go.

Some patients see a long-lasting pain reduction after only one injection, but, other patients may require additional injections to completely eradicate the pain they experience. If after multiple injections you are still feeling a significant amount of pain, there may be something more serious going on that might require a different treatment.

How They Can Ease Neck Pain

These injections can greatly reduce pain caused by pinched nerves or other persistent and painful nerve conditions. The injections reduce inflammation and help heal irritated nerves so that they don’t cause pain elsewhere in the body. Depending on the severity of your pain and the way your body reacts to the injection, more than one injection may be necessary to receive optimal results.
